Discover Trim
Trim, a historic town in County Meath, is known for its medieval architecture, rich heritage, and charming streets. If you're planning a visit to Trim, you'll want to make time for great food, local landmarks, and a comfortable place to stay.

Trim Castle
Just a few minutes' walk from StockHouse, Trim Castle is Ireland’s largest Norman castle. It was built in the late 12th century and still dominates the skyline today.
You can walk around the exterior for free, but it’s worth taking the guided tour of the keep. It gives you access to multiple levels and panoramic views of the River Boyne and surrounding countryside.
Filming for the movie Braveheart took place here, which gives the site even more appeal for film fans.
River Boyne
Trim has a beautiful riverside walk that stretches from the castle past a number of historical ruins. It’s quiet, peaceful, and perfect for a morning or evening walk.
You’ll see remnants of old churches, abbeys, and watch towers as you walk. Don’t miss the Sheep’s Gate, Yellow Steeple, and Talbot’s Castle. There are benches along the route, ideal for taking a break or enjoying a takeaway coffee.

Visit the Priory of St John the Baptist
Just across the river from the main town centre, the ruins of this medieval hospital and priory are open to the public. It dates back to the 13th century and was once a place for caring for the sick and poor.
There’s no entry fee, and while the site is not large, it’s well worth 20–30 minutes of your time. The structure is still in good condition, with clear remains of the chapel and cloister.
Trim Visitor Centre & The Yellow Steeple
The Visitor Centre in Trim is a good starting point if you’re staying more than a day. It offers helpful maps, brochures, and local insights. Staff can answer any questions and recommend walking routes or places to visit.
Just beside the centre is the Yellow Steeple, the remains of a 14th-century Augustinian abbey tower. It’s striking in appearance and makes a good photo spot, especially at sunset.
